BODY CHECKING INFORMATION EVENING
Calgary, AB – Hockey Calgary is opening its doors to everyone to discuss today’s hot topic of body checking in Pee Wee hockey. Hockey Calgary is encouraging people who have questions about delaying body checking until the Bantam level to attend an information evening on April 16, 2012 at the University of Calgary.
“We want to give our members the opportunity to become familiar with the studies and become educated on the subject,” said Todd Millar, president, Hockey Calgary. “We believe this will be a very informative evening which will allow everyone to talk openly about the process Hockey Calgary has been following and the information that is available on the topic of body checking at the Pee Wee level.”
Dr. Carolyn Emery from the University of Calgary will talk for 15 minutes about her findings before opening it up to the floor for discussion. A representative from the body checking review committee and Millar will also be talking on the topic. People who attend the event will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to the three representatives in a hot stove setting.
The goal from this information evening is to ensure our members can make an educated decision when they talk to their Associations before the topic goes to a vote on June 23 at the Hockey Calgary AGM.
“Hockey Calgary wants to ensure the hockey community is informed on this very important topic. We encourage people to join us so all are properly informed,” said Millar.
