HOCKEY CALGARY OUTRAGED OVER RECREATION FUNDING CUTS

For immediate release

CALGARY, ALTA - Hockey Calgary is frustrated and appalled with the recent funding cuts for recreation facilities in Calgary, three which were going to be new ice surfaces.

“We are very disappointed and extremely frustrated. We were depending on these new facilities to relieve the shortage of ice in Calgary and the Federal government just took them away from us without giving it a second thought. There has been no rationale as to why,” said Todd Millar, president, Hockey Calgary.

Hockey Calgary is encouraging everyone to contact their MP and communicate their thoughts towards this decision, as this doesn’t just affect hockey, it affects all sports in Calgary.

“The more people who speak out about this, the better. We want the Federal government to know that we won’t just step down and let this pass. We are upset and we want them to know that,” said Millar.

With over 13,500 kids who play minor hockey in Calgary, available ice is hard to find. The shortage of ice prevents teams from practicing, developing their skills and overall deprives them of a proper hockey experience.

“Sports in Calgary are like dots on dice. We are passionate about sports, we’re an active city and we can’t, and won’t, stand by and let this happen,” said Millar.
