Perry Cavanagh Receives Community Hero Award

July 16, 2014

Perry Cavanagh:

Perry Cavanagh retired in 2007 from a 30 year career in the electrical engineering services world and has devoted the majority of his volunteer time to youth based sports associations and programs. Currently, he is the Chairman of Sport Calgary, a volunteer non-profit society, representing all sport in the city of Calgary. Through strong partnerships, Sport Calgary assists, supports and influences the growth of amateur sports throughout the city.  Perry’s involvement in minor hockey began a ¼ century ago as a coach of his oldest son’s hockey team. Quickly recognizing his strengths, he moved into the administrative side of the game and became the president of the Southern Alberta Tyke Hockey Association, the Properties Sports Hockey Association and the Minor Hockey Association of Calgary. He then jumped to the provincial level by taking on several branch committee responsibilities as well as spending time as a member of the Hockey Alberta Board of Directors. His trek into the national and international levels of the game is highlighted by his participation as a co-chair on the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship organizing committee.  As an advocate for “Sport for Life”, Perry is looking forward to many more years of active giving and participation where and whenever needed!
