HOCKEY ALBERTA TO HOST ALBERTA HOCKEY SUMMIT

Hockey Alberta along with its Invested Stakeholders; Hockey Canada, the Calgary Flames, the Edmonton Oilers and the Western Hockey League, announced today the hosting of the Alberta Hockey Summit August 22-24, 2013 at the Banff Centre in Banff, Alberta.

The purpose of the three day summit is to build a shared vision for the game in Alberta, align key stakeholders around a common purpose and ensure Alberta remains a world leader in Hockey Leadership and Development for years to come.

“With the game consistently evolving and changing we felt it necessary, and that the timing is right to host a hockey summit in Alberta,” said Hockey Alberta’s Executive Director, Rob Litwinski. “It gives not only Hockey Alberta, but all involved in the game, the opportunity to meet collectively and open the dialogue on current topics and the future direction of hockey, in Alberta but also on the greater scale.”

The event will begin in the evening on August 22nd with an Opening Speaker and Reception. Fridaywill see a full day of Keynotes, Panelists and Discussions with a Social Evening to follow. The summit will wrap up Saturday August 24th in the afternoon with a Stakeholder Panel comprised of members representing Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and the WHL.

“We look forward to hosting the Alberta Hockey Summit, particularly, having Invested Stakeholders like Hockey Canada, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and the WHL  involved. This speaks to the dedication and commitment to the game at all levels,” added Litwinski.

Along with the official event announcement, the 2013 Alberta Hockey Summit Steering Committee is announcing its Keynote Speaker line up for the event.

In addition to these world renowned Keynote Speakers the Summit will also feature NHL, WHL, Hockey Canada and other National Sport Speakers through several panel sessions and presentations supplementing the keynote presentations.

The Summit Delegates will be tasked with using the keynote, panel presentations and dialogue relative to each topic to shape action items and outcomes that will guide the future of the game in Alberta. It’s expected this will lead to discussion of many key topics of today including player safety, year round hockey, coach and officiating development, cost and access to the game, recruitment and governance.

Registration for this unique event being held at the Banff Centre in Banff on August 22-24 is now open to the public. A limited number of tickets are available for the event, which includes a ThursdayEvening Opening Reception, Friday Session and Social evening and the full Summit program on Saturday.

For information regarding the registration process, visit www.hockeyalberta.ca/summit  The Delegate Fee is $300.00 CDN and includes Delegate Gift, Thursday Evening Reception Style Supper, FridayLunch and Evening Supper and Social and Saturday plated lunch, as well as all sessions, panels and keynotes.

Accommodations have been reserved with a special Summit Rate and are available on a first come first serve basis. Options are available at the Banff Centre, Mount Royal and Banff International Hotel which can be booked online at www.hockeyalberta.ca/summit.

Of note, panelists and moderators will be announced at a later date.
