Beattie Homes and Calgary Hitmen Launch 2nd Annual Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer Campaign
The campaign, which raised over $22,000 last year, features a three stage approach to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Hitmen game worn black and pink jerseys along with game worn pink and black gloves will be auctioned online by clicking the link at hitmenhockey.com or directly through Elevate Auctions at www.elevateauctions.com/hockeymums. The auction begins February 25th and closes March 9th.
Both the jerseys and gloves will be worn at the upcoming Beattie Homes Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer Game on Sunday, March 13th when the Hitmen host the Red Deer Rebels. Game time is 5:00 pm at Scotiabank Saddledome. The game will culminate with a Hitmen head shave with several players going under the razor. Fans with the winning bid in the game worn jersey auction will also be presented with their jersey and gloves following the game as part of Jersey Off Our Backs. In addition there will also be a Skate-A-Thon at the Olympic Oval on Sunday, March 6th from 12:00 to 4:30 pm where fans can skate with the Hitmen. A minimum pledge of $20 is required with prizes for the most money raised including an autographed Matt MacKenize Hitmen breast cancer jersey. All fans who raise $20 or more will also receive one ticket to the March 13th Breast Cancer game.

Breast Cancer Facts
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Canadian women. One in nine Canadian women is expected to develop breast cancer at some point during her lifetime and one in every 28 Canadian women will die from breast cancer. Since 1986, breast cancer mortality rates have declined by 25%. The current five-year survival rate for a woman diagnosed with breast cancer is 87% largely as a result of improvements in screening and treatment.
