The National Hockey League has joined forces with comic book icon Stan Lee (creator of Spiderman, the Incredible Hulk, X-Men and many other renowned projects) to introduce a unique, interactive and original creation to fans of the NHL known as "The Guardian Project" www.guardianproject30.com.
The Guardian Project consists of each NHL team having a "Guardian", complete with special powers representative of each team and each city. The Guardian Project in its entirety is set to launch at the 2011 NHL All-Star Game in Raleigh, North Carolina but starting at the Winter Classic on January 1st and leading up until then, one NHL team's Guardian will be unveiled each day. Voting for this begun last week and pits 2 NHL teams against one another to see which team's Guardian will be unveiled first.
Calgary's superhero is called "The Flame" and has been matched against Edmonton's superhero "The Oiler" in the first round of voting. The "Battle of Alberta" Guardian that receives the most votes before midnight on January 6th will be unveiled on January 7th. The voting for this is run by the NHL and hosted entirely through Facebook at the following link: www.facebook.com/theguardianproject.
